Wirecheck answers one question: what depends on this credential, MCP server, or integration, and what happens if I change it? These pages cover the CLI and how to wire that question into a coding agent's workflow.
Start here
- CLI reference: auth, status, impact, unknowns, compare, verify
- Claude Code guide: stop Claude Code from removing something it doesn't understand
- Codex guide: the same loop via CLI/JSON instead of a native integration
- AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md instructions: generic instructions for any coding agent
The loop
This is the shape every workflow below follows: a coding agent (or you) about to touch a dependency, checking first, then confirming after:
the loop
Agent is about to change/remove a dependency
↓
wirecheck preflight <name> --json
↓
Known dependants, UNKNOWNs, evidence, affected repos, freshness
↓
Agent makes the change
↓
Agent reports remaining known/unresolved references before calling the task doneWirecheck never returns a safe_to_remove field. Zero known dependants with one or more UNKNOWN relationships is not a green light; it means something, and the agent should say so rather than proceed as if it were confirmed safe.
